David Lobach, MD, PhD, MS, is a nationally recognized medical informatician specializing in clinical decision support and a practicing physician with 20 years of experience designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating applied information systems that enable innovative new approaches to health care delivery. He is the clinical director for Religent Health, a software company specializing in data integration and population health management for large health care delivery systems. Operational systems he has created have supported population health management for chronic disease and preventive services, optimization of resource utilization, evidence-based pharmacotherapy, information-enhanced care transitions, and direct electronic collection of data from patients and providers. Formerly, Dr. Lobach was on the faculty of the Duke University School of Medicine for 23 years, serving as chief of the Division Clinical Informatics for 12 years. While at Duke, he was principal investigator (PI) or co-PI on 21 grants totaling over $20 million with funding from federal, private foundation, and industry sources.
Dr. Lobach received his BS degree in biology (Summa Cum Laude) from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, his MD degree from the Duke University School of Medicine, his PhD degree in immunology from the Duke University Graduate School, and his MS degree in biomedical engineering (medical informatics) from the Duke School of Engineering. He also completed three years of clinical training in internal medicine and two years of clinical subspecialty training in endocrinology at Duke University Medical Center.
