Erin Dempsey took over the Medicare Part A portfolio on June 9, 2014. Before joining the Finance Committee, she was the Health Care Policy Analyst at the Senate Republican Policy Committee. At the RPC, Ms. Dempsey prepared in-depth, analytical policy papers on emerging health care issues for the weekly Republican policy lunch. She also drafted the weekly RPC Health Care Policy Update offering commentary and policy analysis on the latest developments in health care news. In her role at RPC, Ms. Dempsey produced comprehensive analysis explaining all health care legislation and related amendments considered on the Senate floor. Prior to joining the RPC, she was senior health policy advisor to Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), during the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) debate and subsequent implementation. Ms. Dempsey also served as legislative assistant for health care to the late Sen. Craig Thomas. She was the co-staff director of the bipartisan Senate Rural Health Caucus, which Sen. Thomas co-chaired with Sen. Tom Harkin.
